We want to get you up to date on the
headlines. A man due in court this
morning after a four-year-old boy got
hold of a gun and accidentally shot
himself.
>> So, this boy is in critical condition
after the shooting yesterday. Jade
Flurry is live to tell us more about
this incident and the man’s connection
to this. Jade?
>> Yeah, Dylan. According to court
documents, Nicholas Zapeda Kintania, a
convicted felon, is now charged in
connection to the four-year-old boy’s
accidental shooting. But right now, it’s
unclear what exactly his relationship is
to the boy who shot himself. The
shooting happened around 12:40 Monday
afternoon at the Sage Hollow Apartments
in Southeast Houston. A neighbor called
911 reporting that the 4-year-old boy
had shot himself. He was rushed to the
hospital and is currently in critical
condition like you guys mentioned. But
according to these court documents,
Zapeda Kintania lives at the apartment
where the child shot himself. The
documents state that he left a loaded
unsecured gun on a shelf before the
shooting. Now, this is the 911 call from
the afternoon when that incident
happened.

>> Shot in the head. We’re going to need HS
as fast as I can get her.
>> There was a lady holding her kid. She
was screaming, crying, but there was
another neighbor that was talking to the
cops cuz she had called the cops for
her. At first, I didn’t know for hours
what had happened. And then once the
news started showing up, they started
informing people that it was a
four-year-old child that had got a hold
of their gun while they were sleeping
and shot himself in the head.
Now again, Zapeda Kintania is expected
to appear in probable cause sometime
this morning. He’s now facing charges
for injury to a child and unlawful
possession of a firearm. Reporting from
downtown Houston, Jade Flurry, Fox 26
News. Our top story here today, one of
the bodies found in the bayus over the
summer has since been identified as a 34
year old man from South Houston. Fox
26’s Angie Rodriguez joining us live
from the studio with the details on
that. Angie?
>> Yeah, the Harris County Medical
Examiner’s Office confirmed that Salom
Garca Jr. was found dead at Buffalo
Bayou back in June. Today, I spoke with
his mother, Ana, about the loss, and she
says that HPD has given her radio
silence. She just wants answers.
It’s hard. A lot of days are hard.
>> Ana Varel says she still hasn’t
processed the death of one of her only
two boys in a family of six.
>> He was very loving,
very caring, giving. What he had, we all
had. Um, he was had some mental
disability. He was full-blown
schizophrenic and bipolar, but he did
try to manage that every day. Houston
police confirmed that 34year-old Salom
Garca Jr. was recovered by a dive team
from the waters at Buffalo Bayou back in
June. But for weeks, Varel has called
the Harris County Medical Examiner’s
Office hoping to get an update on how
Gara died.
>> On the way home, I told my daughter like
he was found in a bio, but he knows how
to swim.
>> The only belongings of Gara returned to
Varal was over $100 in cash. He had $130
in cash in his pocket
>> and that was it.
>> That was it.
So nothing was I mean he wasn’t robbed.
We can’t say that he was robbed because
he had you know quite a bit of cash on
him.
>> Many questions that Var says are all too
common to be unanswered.
>> As a parent, I hope it wasn’t suicide.
You know, as a parent, I hope it wasn’t
murder. Could it have been his mental
illness? I don’t know. I mean, I won’t
know. until, you know, it’s looked into.
I mean, I think there’s a a way that
they can eliminate this by um expediting
the toxicology reports for these
families because you cannot be told your
son is passed away. It’s unknown and you
won’t know for a year because the
medical examiner’s office is backlogged
for a year.
>> And I spoke with Houston police earlier
today. They have confirmed that they are
still waiting for the medical examiner’s
office to release their autopsy results.
That’s whenever they’ll be able to
confirm a cause of death.
>> All right. So, Garza is one of the many
people we’ve covered um with these
bodies being found in the Bayus. But
we’ve also covered the mayor as well
saying that there is no serial killer.
He said that time and time again.
Although, if you go on social media,
some folks may be disagreeing and
suspecting something is a foot.
>> They’re calling it the Bayou Butcher is
what I’m hearing. But again, Mayor
Whitmire and HPD uh police chief Diaz
said that they want people to stop
spreading false information. He said
that they are working with the medical
examiner’s office to ensure that
families like Godas can receive a sense
of closure.
>> All right, thank you so much, Angie, for
following that. Hopefully that parent
and that family gets closure that
they’re looking for.
>> Of course, that real stunner. A new
video just into our newsroom shows the
moment two women fighting in the
roadway. We’re not going to show this
part of it, but they were hit and killed
by a car.
>> Yeah. You’ll see here just the moment
the car approaches them. Again, this is
on Cullen southeast side. We paused it
right there just to not show you the
moment of impact. This happened very
early morning, early this morning. Uh
southeast side of Houston, the Sunnyside
area. Jade Flurry, she’s been working
this story all morning long. She’s live
there in Sunnyside on Cullen. Jade,
manhunt underway for the driver who
obviously we saw with this video just
took off.
Yeah, that’s right, you guys. Houston
police are searching for that driver in
a red sedan who hit who hit and killed
the two women who were fighting in the
middle of Cullen Boulevard here. And we
do have surveillance video from the
convenience across the street that shows
the whole incident caught on camera when
it happened around 3:30 this morning.
The surveillance video shows the women,
one believed to be in her 30s and the
other believed to be in her 50s,
fighting on the side of the street
before that fight spills over into the
middle of Cullen Boulevard. They wrestle
for only about 37 seconds before a red
car runs them over and drives away
without rendering aid. Both of the women
dying at the scene.
fights
like this. I don’t know what path these
people took in life to end up dead on
the street like this. Um or why they got
in a fight at 3:00 in the morning. Um
it’s it’s just it’s sad. You know, these
people have families that care about
them. They have people that that will
miss them and they’re gone.
>> Again, investigators are working to find
and identify the suspect in this hit and
run. If you guys have any information,
you’re urged to call Houston police.
Reporting from Sunnyside, Jade Flurry,
Fox 26 News.
>> And we do begin with some breaking news.
Just a heartbreaking scene over in
Conroe tonight. Now, McGomery County
deputies say an apparent murder suicide
has left two adults and a child dead.
Fox 26’s Sherman Dell joining us from
Crystal Creek Drive with the latest from
investigators.
Three people, including a child, found
shot to death on the front porch at a
home in Conroe. Investigators are saying
the details are limited, but what they
know so far, they’re treating it as a
murder suicide investigation.
Deputies got a call around 3:45 at the
11,000 block of Crystal Creek Road.
>> Our officers responded. They found two
deceased adults and then a deceased
child on scene. There was a weapon
recovered here. Major crimes detectives
and crime scene investigators are now
conducting a thorough investigation of
possible murder suicide.
>> This is a tragic event. It will shock
people’s conscience to see this kind of
thing happening in our community and
that our thoughts and prayers are with
the family members, especially those
that have discovered this uh horrible
incident.
>> Neighbors we spoke to say that they were
shocked at the news and they weren’t
even sure that anyone lived in the
property anymore, which is off the road
with a private driveway. We’ve yet to
get a positive ID on the victims in this
case. We spoke with some neighbors who
say that they had once remembered
hearing a loud parties come from that
area, but as of late, they didn’t even
know anyone lived back there. Soon as we
get more information, we’ll keep you
updated on our Fox Local app. Reporting
from Conro Sherman Dell, Fox 26 News.
>> Houston police make an incredibly
disturbing discovery overnight in
northeast Houston.
A man hanging from a rope and on fire.
This is underneath 610, the north loop
of 610 near Kirkpatrick. Denise
Middleton, she joins us live there near
the scene uh with the latest details on
this incredibly disturbing. Denise, what
are you learning so far?
>> Oh yeah, this is shocking, gruesome
discovery that investigators are still
trying to piece together to determine
who would do this and why. We are here
near the area where he was found and
Houston police tell us that there is a
homeless encampment nearby, though we
haven’t seen anyone since we arrived
this morning. Now, Union Pacific
employees called about a brush fire near
this train track here at Kirk Patrick
and Wayside Drive around 10:30 last
night. After putting out the fire,
Houston firefighters found the man dead
hanging from the rope underneath 610.
Investigators say it appears to be a
homicide, but there’s not a lot of
details about the victim or exactly what
happened.
What what actually killed him, we don’t
know that. I mean, of course, that’ll be
something that, you know, detectives and
after the Emmy, after the autopsy report
comes out, they’ll be able to tell
officially as to the cause of death and,
you know, what happened first.
>> And right now, there are no witnesses.
So if you saw anything suspicious in
this area, call Crimestoppers at 713222
TIPS or HPD. Reporting live from
Northeast Houston, Denise Middleton, Fox
26 News.
>> Well, at this hour, deputies are
searching for a 12-year-old boy who they
say stabbed his 13-year-old sister,
causing serious injuries. It’s all
happening on the city’s north side, and
that is where we find Fox 26’s Randy
Wallace. Randy?
>> Yeah, Anthony. Now, precinct 4 um
conible deputies were called here to
this apartment complex at 311 North
Vista at 6:05. That call was for a
weapons uh disturbance. When they came
out here, they found a 13-year-old girl
had been stabbed in the side. She was
given treatment here and then taken to
the hospital. A little while ago,
Captain Juan Flores gave the media
rundown. Here’s what he says happened.
child was stabbed by her own sibling. Uh
the other sibling being a a 12-year-old
male. Uh so when units got here, the
male was already gone. Uh he fled on
foot, which is the reason we have
multiple resources, including a drone in
the air right now. Uh we’re trying to
locate this child as our main focus. Uh
we do have investigators with Harris
County Precinct 4 here who will be
conducting the full investigation uh to
present for criminal charges, but right
now at this point, we’re focused on
locating the 12-year-old child. I just
knelt down beside her because as soon as
I seen her, I just automatically went
into like mom mode, you know what I
mean? Like if that was my child sitting
there, you know, and I just held her
hand and was just asking her questions
to kind of keep her alert and keep her
calm and just she’s 13. I mean, that’s a
little girl.
>> Thank goodness the girl is expected to
survive. Now, according to the captain,
there was at least one adult in the
apartment when the stabbing happened.
and he says they’ve been called out here
in the past on family disturbances.
Again, they’re trying to find the
12year-old brother and there is
absolutely no threat to the public.
Reporting live from the north side,
Randy Wallace, Fox 26 News.
>> In a month, we’ve seen a mother and a
father face separate charges in regards
to a drowning incident at their home.
The children are still in CPS custody.
There’s still a lot of questions about
both parents.
Jessica Kintana is facing two felony
injuries to child charges and a felony
assault charge in Liberty County. She’s
the mother of three kids who were
hospitalized after a near drowning at
their family’s pond outside their home
in Dayton. She was also sent to the
hospital after deputies found her inside
the pond unconscious and arrested on
October 24th immediately after her
hospital stay. She uh took took the kids
down to the pond and the kids were in
the water and ultimately the um
11-year-old was in very critical
condition for a short time. Uh luckily
she recain regained consciousness.
>> Now on September 29th, the day of the
incident, the mother didn’t face charges
at all. Instead, it was the father,
Domingo Canana, who was arrested and
charged with animal cruelty.
Investigators say they found a
malnourished cat on the property the day
of the drowning incident. While in
court, Domingo Canana requested a
courtappointed attorney and that was
denied by a judge. He told the judge he
was only bringing in $1,900 a month from
a rental property he owns. Although the
home in Dayton, where the incident
happened, is worth $4.5 million. Based
on the evidence deputies have, they
believe Jessica Canana’s intent was to
drown the children. They also haven’t
received toxicology reports back to
determine if the children were drugged
at the time. That’s another speculation
in the case. At this point,
investigators say additional charges are
possible. They’re now waiting to
interview the mother.
>> I’m not sure that we’ll have any charges
whatsoever on the father. Uh but that’s
not ruled out as we speak. Um that that
I mean that’s possible.
>> Domingo Canana set to appear in court
again within days. Reporting from the
newsroom, Sherman Dell, Fox 26 News.
